Help your students learn all about glaciers, glacial movement, erosion, deposition, weathering, and more with this engaging and interactive landform unit. This unit, which includes three lessons (each with its own reading passage), intertwines science and social studies into nonfiction reading.

This resource includes THREE lessons on glaciers, including vocabulary; glaciers around the world; and glaciers in North America.

Each lesson has a two-page reading passage that is written at a 4th-5th grade reading level. Each passage contains eight comprehension questions which range from a DOK of 1-4.

This resource also comes with EIGHT extension activities to take learning about glaciers even further. These activities range from very simple, one-day activities (for example, a Venn Diagram comparing glaciers to icebergs) all the way to complex and multi-day activities (research the effects of global warming on modern-day glaciers).

You’ll have access to two kinds of vocabulary activities. One is a cut-and-paste word sort where students match the word, the definition, and the picture. The other activity asks students to define the ten vocabulary words using context clues from the reading passage.

This unit looks at the effects of glaciers on our Earth, including weathering, deposition, and erosion. The unit also helps students identify and understand how glaciers have impacted travel, the economy, the population, and more.
