The story is a heartwarming tale of a Mexican-American family that lives in Chicago. The youngest, Stella, learns that her heritage and her unique personality are something to be celebrated!

My favorite way to use Stella Diaz Has Something To Say in the classroom is as a whole-class read aloud, which I do along with these comprehension questions. It fits the bill with many literature standards, and it’s also a great way to infuse social-emotional learning into your curriculum.

Teaching is time-consuming, so I have created this NO PREP resource to make your planning easier! This unit is truly print-and-go ready!!! I have also included a Google Slides™ version of the novel study for you to use digitally!

In addition, the questions and activities posed to the students are not fluffy; instead, they challenge the thinking of your students and engage your class in Reading Standards.

THIS PRODUCT INCLUDES:

➠ Comprehension questions for students. Each chapter has three or four questions, all of which are short answer. The questions range in difficulty from DOK 1 to DOK 4. If you are following my unit plan, this novel study will take place in 9 days. Each student will have their own “Stella’s Journal”, and the copying and set-up could not be easier! Simply follow the printing instructions included with this product. There are also answer keys! I have also included easy, step-by-step instructions for how to use this resource digitally with students as well.

➠ Journal entries for your students. I’ve included one entry after every third chapter, plus an end-of-novel reflection. All seven journal entries will allow your students to think critically about the novel and process what they are reading.
