Continue your SEL instruction and maintain routines with this SEL journal designed for the summer! This resource is full of activities, social stories, role playing, and journal prompts to get kids thinking and to help kids self-regulate at home.

The SEL Summer Journal was created to limit the amount of “summer slide” that can also show up in social-emotional attitudes and behaviors. The goal of this resource is to reinforce all of the SEL skills and self-regulation strategies that you’ve taught throughout the year.

This resource comes with 12 different prompts. They are meant to be done weekly, but they are labeled as “prompts” instead of weeks so that teachers and caregivers can personalize the experience as needed. Activities, journal prompts, and reflections were developed using the CASEL® Framework.

Prompt 1 is longer than the other prompts, and it sets the tone for the summer. Students set an SEL goal and set themselves up for success. It is strongly recommended that Prompt 1 be completed in school, just before summer break begins.

Prompts 2-12 are two pages each. They include a weekly check-in with the same questions each week (to develop routines and ground student thinking), as well as a prompt-specific page that has social stories, journal responses, and/or real-world situations that encourage children to think closely about how they might respond.

The resource comes in a print form as well as in Google Slides™.
