Description
Are you ready to teach Wishtree? Do you want to expose your students to great new vocabulary, but don’t have the time to find that quality vocabulary in a novel? This resource is designed to help the busy teacher do what they do best – TEACH content-area and context clue vocabulary for rich literature.
*Includes both a PDF version and a Google Slidesâ„¢ version!
This novel is chock-full of rich vocabulary. I have chosen 70 words to highlight in this novel for vocabulary acquisition. Some of these words will be great for content-area vocabulary in social studies and science.
For most words, students will use context clues to create their own definitions. Other vocabulary words will be learned through a critical thinking prompt. This challenges students to use the new word in the correct context.
For your teaching convenience, several different forms of word study are provided in this pack. They include:
- Defining Vocabulary Using Context Clues
- Critical Thinking Questions About New Vocabulary Words
- Semantic Maps
- Greek/Latin Word Maps
- Act it Out! Strategy
How were the words chosen?
The words chosen for this resource are words that I felt met at least one of the following criteria:
- Appropriate context clue supports from surrounding words
- Greek or Latin roots present
- Used multiple times in the novel
- Useful vocabulary for future
- Words with multiple meanings
