How were the words chosen?
The seven words chosen for each chapter are words that I felt met at least one of the following criteria:
โ Appropriate context clue supports from surrounding words
โ Greek or Latin roots present
โ Used multiple times in the novel
โ Useful vocabulary for future
โ Words with multiple meanings
Feel free to switch out words that are more meaningful for your students!
For your teaching convenience, several different forms of word study are provided in this pack. They include:
โ Semantic Maps
โ Greek/Latin Word Maps
โ Act it Out! Strategy
โ Vocabulary Defining
โ Critical Thinking Questions Using Vocabulary
This novel is chock-full of rich vocabulary. I have chosen seven words to highlight in each chapter. In each chapter, six vocabulary words were chosen, and students will use context clues to create their own definitions. The seventh word is a critical thinking prompt that challenges students to use the new word in the correct context.
I have also included an end-of-the-novel reflection on the concepts of tessering and a tesseract.
